The history of crystal divination Of mighty force my mystic science shows… this potent stone, by sages old extolled. Restless Adamant [quartz] is right called, for that it bends the powers who rule the sky…with influence bland, it soothes the soul to rest. And rouses pleasant thoughts in the human breast.  Orpheus on Gems: The Lithika Crystals are not just a new age fad. They have been used as oracles since time immemorial and many crystal divinatory meanings go way back into antiquity. Their reflective qualities act as mirrors to reveal the pathway of your soul and they link you to that part of yourself that is all-seeing and all-knowing. Once you are aligned to this, crystal wisdom enhances every aspect of your life. The art of scrying I was delighted to be asked to create a crystal oracle pack. I wanted the pack to be something special that would access soul guidance as well as answer more mundane questions and give healing. I was fortunate to have a young photographer, Michael Ilias, working with me who encapsulated their essence in his shots. The stunning photographs in The Crystal Wisdom Healing Oracle help you develop your own intuition, expanding and anchoring your awareness. Each card has a self understanding insight and a divinatory meaning to assist you in navigating your life following your soul’s path as well as a healing application. In a sense, they are a crystal initiation. I’d been researching the history of crystal divination for my Masters degree. I’d tracked the practice of scrying back over seven thousand years but it is probably much older as the pouches of stones, polished crystal mirrors and spheres buried with their owners in prehistory attest. When you gaze into a crystal your rational mind no longer operates and intuition kicks in. When you cast crystals, random chance apparently takes over but synchronicity is at work. But the easiest way of all is to use a crystal card pack. This means that you can tune into some of the newer – and more expensive - high vibration crystals as well as tried and tested old favourites. And, as an extra benefit, you can lay the cards on your body for healing. The magical crystal past Eight and a half thousand years ago a young shaman was laid to rest on a bed of red hematite at Bad Dürrenberg, her magical grave goods beside her. They included numerous bones, thirty one tiny flint blades which she kept in a crane’s bone box, and a carefully fashioned stone ball that, I would suggest, could be rolled rather like a dice. The Bad Dürrenberg grave and the grave goods [caption id="attachment_4787" align="aligncenter" width="736"] Artist’s impression of the young shaman[/caption] Five thousand years ago in Mesopotamia a woman was respectfully interred with twelve pebbles beside her, her only grave goods. In a land where pebbles are extremely rare these were collected from two hundred miles away. It is tempting to think, along with the professor who uncovered the grave, that these pebbles had a specific purpose: divination. Many similar discoveries have been made but most archaeologists tend to overlook ‘mere pebbles’ so their significance has not been realised. Early Mesopotamian sources mention an ‘elmeshu stone’ (often translated as diamond, quite possibly clear quartz) stone that functioned as an oracle, which makes the following few lines in an ancient Assyrian private letter rather intriguing: To my father say, thus saith Elmeshu: Shamash and Marduk fill with well-being the days of my father perpetually. My father, be thou well, flourish; the God that preserves my father direct my father’s source of grace. ‘Elmeshu’ is usually interpreted by archaeologists as a ‘woman’ but as Shamash (the Sun) and Marduk (Jupiter) are gods of good fortune, perhaps they, through the stone, have been consulted as to the future of the writer’s father. In the ancient world, crystals were regarded not just as a receptacle for the gods but as the gods themselves. In the ancient Egyptian Songs of Isis and Nephthys, the two goddesses address their brother Osiris: ‘your hair is of lapis lazuli… your vertebrae are made of turquoise.’ The ancient Egyptians, whilst poetic in utterance, were also literal.  In their view, the god in the heavens is made of lapis lazuli, and the stone carries the qualities of the god on earth. [caption id="attachment_4799" align="aligncenter" width="372"] Isis and Nepthys watch over their brother Osiris[/caption] Turquoise and Lapis Lazuli It is no wonder, therefore, that crystals such as Lapis Lazuli and Turquoise have traditionally been used to ascertain the will of the gods. That is, they were used for divination. Crystals have always been a part of magic and transformation. Oral tradition tells us that crystal talismans were used not only ascertain but also to influence the future. From Babylonian times, many crystals were astrological in nature, intrinsically linked to the planets and zodiac. They were part of a complex system of forecasting and petitioning favour from the gods which passed down through the ages. Crystal divination is found throughout the Old Testament and in many other sources. In the wonderful crystal odyssey that is the Lithica, a fourth century Orphic poem describing in great detail the properties of crystals and the initiation steps needed to become a crystal worker, a magical black stone sphere is described. According to Helenus, a Trojan soothsayer, this sphere foretold the downfall of his city. The tale describes in graphic detail how he fasts for twenty-one days, tenderly wraps the sphere in soft garments and makes offerings to it until through the magic of his prayers ‘a living soul warmed the precious substance.’ Sadly the news that the communicator had to offer was not good and the city fell. Egyptian wisdom [caption id="attachment_4798" align="aligncenter" width="510"] Flint knives[/caption] In the ancient Egyptian story King Cheops and the Magicians, the king, builder of the Great Pyramid, had long sought for hidden chambers in a temple of the wisdom god Thoth – keeper of the Akashic Record. Cheop’s son suggested he seek out a magician named Djedi. Asked if he knew the location of the chambers, the magician replied, “no, but the answer will be found in a basket of flint in a room named ‘investigator’ in Heliopolis.” Heliopolis is the sun or the self. This is profound piece of oracular wisdom that could be interpreted as the answer having to be sought in the inner, not the outer, world. As far back as the 6th century BCE the Ratnapariksa of Buddhabhatta tells us that the emerald gives knowledge of the future. Many different crystals have been turned to for guidance. He set out the virtues of stones, many of which have remained unchanged since that time. Diamond then, as now, indicated enduring love. His list was reproduced in the eighth century C.E. Achametis which shows the enduring nature of the tradition. The latter includes interpretations of a king’s dream of crystal crowns. Such a dream usually portended increased power and success but the colour and character of the crystal were significant. If the gems were red carbuncles or rubies, it portended great joy and good fortune and indicated that the king would be even more feared by his enemies. Blue crystals however were a bad omen, foreshadowing the loss of part of the kingdom. Leek green stones indicated that the king would gain a reputation throughout the world, ‘both by his good faith and by the greatness of his kingdom’. Before tea leaves When Pliny the Elder, the 1st century Roman geographer, wrote his treatise on stones his intention was to ridicule the beliefs of his time concerning crystals. However, he inadvertently told us just how widespread and wide ranging those beliefs were. He calls it a ‘dreadful lie’ that an Anachitis, the Stone of Necessity, could call up water spirits to act as an oracle for the future, for instance. [caption id="attachment_4802" align="alignleft" width="178"] Pliny the Elder[/caption] But hydromancy, divination through water, and lithomancy, divination by crystals, had long been part of the mantic arts. And belief in the power of stones continued well into the Middle Ages. The magician Henry Cornelius Agrippa tells us ‘the stone Anachitis makes the images of the gods appear. The stone Ennectis, put under them that dream, causeth oracles.’ Crystals were cast onto board, used as a kind of dice, or held to invoke assistance of the spirits. A beautiful rock crystal dodecahedron with symbols on each of its facets was found in an ancient Greek cave. It could be rolled to give an answer and many of the ‘board games’ and crystals found in early graves could well be oracles, as could the polished rock crystal mirrors. Examples of Egyptian icosahedra (20 sided) forms include: three "made of steatite or faience, inscribed with Greek letters" in Cairo and Paris museums, "four polyhedra from Egypt with Greek letters made of faience, serpentine, steatite, or calcite" housed in the British Museum, "a faience icosahedron inscribed with Greek letters" sold on the art market, and a rock crystal icosahedron "inscribed with Latin letters and Roman numerals" at the Louvre.   [gallery columns="2" link="file" ids="4797,4804"] Egyptian: a different god is shown on each face. Crystal balls were consulted throughout history. Dr John Dee, policy consultant to Queen Elizabeth the First paid Edward Kelly £50 a year (an enormous amount in those days) to scry with a crystal ball or ‘shewestone’ and Dee’s diaries are full of references to this ‘big, bright clere and glorious’ egg-shaped stone which was accompanied by angels and their messages. Dee also owned a smoky quartz ball. I handled one of his shewstones, which was in private hands, many years ago and can attest that it retained its powers! [caption id="attachment_4796" align="aligncenter" width="736"] Dee’s mirror and crystal ball at British Museum[/caption] [caption id="attachment_4793" align="alignleft" width="287"] Dr John Dee, contemporary engraving[/caption] The English politician and antiquarian Horace Walpole writes of Dee’s ‘magic speculum’ a highly polished black mirror half an inch in thickness and seven and a quarter inches in diameter which sounds like obsidian and which is said to have been a Mayan Obsidian Mirror. These items are now in the British Museum. Such things seem to have been commonplace. In the 16th century James Thomson wrote ‘one great amusement of our household was in a huge crystal magic globe to spy as you turned it all things that do pass upon this Ant-Hill Earth.’ The Breastplate of the High Priest But we can go back much further in history than this to explore crystal divination. In Exodus 28, 15-30 we are told by Moses that: ‘the people come to me to enquire of God’ (18:15). This was by means of the Breastplate fashioned for his brother Aaron which had twelve crystals set within it. Hearsay evidence about the use of the Breastplate as an oracle comes from Josephus, the Roman historian, writing many years later: From the stones which the High Priest wore (these were sardonyxes and I hold it superfluous to describe their nature, since it is known to all), there emanated a light… which was worn on the right shoulder instead of a clasp emitting a radiance sufficient to give light even to those far away, although the stone previously lacked this splendour. And certainly, this in itself merits the wonder of all those who do not, out of contempt for religion, allow themselves to be led away by a pretence of wisdom.  However, I am about to relate something still more wonderful, namely that God announced victory by means of the twelve stones worn by the High Priest on his breast. The breastplate contained the Urim and Thumin and the Bible also relates their use as an oracle. Rabbi Geoffrey W. Dennis says the Talmud describes it as functioning ‘as a kind of ouija board with messages being spelled out for the High Priest.’ However, translation difficulties make it impossible to establish exactly which stones were in the breastplate. The call to prophesy When the Old Testament prophet Ezekiel had his call to prophesy, it involved crystal and astrological imagery: As I looked a stormy wind came out of the north, a great cloud with brightness around it and fire flashing forth continually, and in the middle of the fire, .. gleaming amber [also translated as ‘awesome crystal]. In the middle of it .. four living creatures… As for the appearance of their faces: the four had the face of a human being, the face of a lion on the right side, the face of an ox on the left side, and the face of an eagle…   [the fixed cross of astrology] … I saw a wheel on the earth beside the living creatures, one for each of the four of them. As for the appearance of the wheels and their construction, their appearance was like the gleaming of beryl… over the heads of the living creatures there was… a dome, shining like crystal… When they moved, I heard the sound of their wings like the sound of mighty waters, like the thunder of the Almighty… Above the dome [was] a throne, in appearance like sapphire… Like the bow in a cloud on a rainy day, such was the appearance of the splendour all around. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. [Ezekiel 1] This is the famous ‘chariot of fire’ that so many people today interpret as a spaceship coming down to land. Powered by crystals perhaps? A horoscope set out in stones My own personal favourite account of a crystal oracle is the board used by the Pharaoh Nectanebo to foretell the birth of Alexander the Great. Nectanebo is not exactly a disinterested observer. Later in the story he disguises himself as Ammon and impregnates Olympias after prophesying that she would be visited by the god in the night. But it was the means by which Nectanebo cast the synastry (interaction) between the Queen and her husband that caught my attention: He placed his hand in a fold of his garment and took out an extraordinary little writing tablet, constructed from gold, ivory, ebony and silver, and engraved with three zones. On the first circle were the thirty-six decans, on the second the twelve signs of the zodiac, and on the inner one the Sun and Moon. He put it on a chair. Then he opened a small ivory box, revealing the seven stars and the ascendant made of eight precious stones, which lit up the pictured miniature heaven. The Sun was of crystal, the Moon of diamond, the Mars of haemetite, the Mercury of emerald, the Jupiter of air-stone, the Venus of sapphire, the Saturn of orphite (Serpentine) and the pointer of white marble. The Alexander Romance   Similar boards have indeed been found and the association between crystals and the zodiac goes way back to Mesopotamia (see dissertation on www.judyhall.co.uk). When scrying was respectable In the 19th century Sir John Aubrey gave an eye witness account of a scrying ball in use with the blessing of the church for at least two hundred years: … a miller had it and he did work great cures with it (if curable), and in the Beryl they did see, either the receipt in writing, or else the herb. [A minister had it] the spirits or angels would appear openly, and because the miller (who was his familiar friend) one day happened to see them, he gave him the aforesaid Beryl… Afterwards this Beryl came into somebody's hand in London who did tell strange things by it; insomuch that at last he was questioned for it, and it was taken away by authority (it was about 1645). This Beryl is a perfect sphere, the diameter of it I guess to be something more than an inch; it is set in a ring, or circle, of silver, resembling the meredian of a globe; the stem of it is about ten inches high, all gilt. At the four quarters of it are the names of four angels, viz: Uriel, Raphael, Michael, Gabriel." John Aubrey, "Miscellanies," London, 1890. An esteemed clergyman and president of a Victorian psychical research society Andrew Lang recorded the following story at the beginning of the 20th century: "I had given a crystal ball to a young lady, Miss Baillie, who had scarcely any success with it. She lent it to Miss Leslie, who saw a large, square, old-fashioned, red sofa, covered with muslin (which she afterward found in the next country-house she visited). Miss Baillie's brother laughed at these experiments but took the ball into his study, and came back looking 'gey gash.' He admitted that he had seen a vision -somebody he knew, under a lamp. He said he would discover during the week whether he saw right or not. This was at 5.30 on a Sunday afternoon. On Tuesday Mr Baillie was at a dance in a town 40 miles from his house, and met a Miss Preston. 'On Sunday,' he said, 'about half-past five, you were sitting under a standard lamp, in a dress I never saw you wear, a blue blouse with lace over the shoulders, pouring out tea for a man in blue serge, whose back was towards me, so that I only saw the tip of his moustache.' 'Why, the blinds must have been up,' said Miss Preston. 'I was at Dulby.’ The Mormon Seer Stone This from Wikipedia: Joseph Smith, Jr., the founder of Mormonism and the Latter Day Saint movement, used magical stones (referred to in Mormonism as "seer stones") for various purposes. Scrying through magical stones was a common practice in Smith's early 19th century New England, and was practiced by several respected leaders at the time. During his life he had at least three separate stones that were obtained through various means (one of which he recovered by looking into a neighbor's seer stone and seeing the location). These stones were initially used in various treasure digging endeavors. Later, Smith used two stones called the Urim and Thummim, two clear stones in a bow that resembled spectacles, in his 1829 translation of the Book of Mormon from the Golden Plates (although much of the translation was actually done using one of the stones that he obtained earlier in life). Though Smith initially used his stones to see hidden thingstheir use later evolved into a revelatory catalyst. Smith and others claimed that God communicated to them through these stones. Two stones, believed to be Urim and Thummims but referred to as "interpreters" are mentioned in the Book of Mormon. Smith claimed to have discovered these ancient scrying rocks by aid of an angel along with the Golden Plates. [caption id="attachment_4800" align="aligncenter" width="300"] John Smith’s show stone[/caption] Are oracles still relevant today? I would answer a resounding yes to this question. My work with crystals has shown me that they are eager to help us forge a new way forward, a path of expanded awareness that takes us beyond the everyday into the multidimensions of consciousness. They show us what is necessary to bring a new understanding into play, to create a ‘new age.’ I call this the path of the soul. So? What can crystal scrying do for you? The oracle speaks for your soul. Each card has replies slanted towards self understanding and divination and a healing insight. The answers encompass fortunate and seemingly less fortunate possibilities. But the cards do not judge which is which. It’s best to let your own intuitive guidance point to what is relevant to you. The crystal oracle connects directly to your heart. Crystal wisdom can only work for you if you are prepared to let go of the past, incorporate the oracle’s advice into every aspect your life and expand your awareness into the amazing mysteries of soul and higher consciousness that await you. The best way to use the cards is to meditate with them, keep them under your pillow and above all, live the life you meant to be. Case history I’ve just had a cataract operation that was, to quote the surgeon, ‘complicated’. I could barely see, required further operations on it, and my other eye needed doing. I had to cancel all my workshops. The future looked bleak. So I turned to the Crystal Wisdom Oracle and pulled a card: Rainbow Mayanite: the rainbow bridge [caption id="attachment_4803" align="alignleft" width="198"] Rainbow Mayanite[/caption] Iridescent Rainbow Mayanite bridges the many dimensions of this world and the rest of creation. It has made its presence known to heal unconditionally and assist the shift to a new level of consciousness: literally a new age.         Vibration: exceptionally high Chakra: Higher crown. Recalibrates all to optimum functioning Timing: Aquarius Soul path: becoming a rainbow bridge between the worlds Self-understanding: You are a leader for the ascension of our planet. When you raise your vibrations the whole benefits. De-energise old patterns. Release karmic encrustations and toxic dross absorbed from others, or the environment, from your etheric body – the crystal assists. Go within to find your rainbow-treasure house. Raise your consciousness to build new, supportive structures at every level and move into a new age. Divination: You are a herald of a new age. Recognise how your soul is manoeuvring you onto your true pathway and how apparently detrimental situations offer soul gifts. Re-examine projects in the making and let go those not for your highest good or that of others. You see things from both sides. Always speak truth no matter what the cost but be tactful. You have natural healing ability, focus it wisely.

(The text of a talk given in Budapest) They said of old the Soul had human shape, But smaller, subtler than the fleshly self, So wandered forth for airing when it pleased. And see! beside her cherub-face there floats A pale-lipped form aerial whispering Its promptings in that little shell her ear.  Now is there civil war within the soul: Resolve is thrust from off the sacred throne By clamorous Needs, and Pride the grand-vizier Makes humble compact, plays the supple part Of envoy and deft-tongued apologist For hungry rebels.  Our deeds still travel with us from afar, And what we have been makes us what we are.  Full souls are double mirrors, making still An endless vista of fair things before, Repeating things behind.  Hath she her faults?  I would you had them too. They are the fruity must of soundest wine; Or say, they are regenerating fire Such as hath turned the dense black element Into a crystal pathway for the sun.  George Eliot, Middlemarch People often ask me: ‘Why is this happening?’ My answer is: ‘you are an immortal soul who happens to be on a human journey at this moment for the purpose of growth and evolution but who is capable of multi-faceted experience in different dimensions.’ People ask me because I’m a karmic counsellor, someone who looks at past life patterns in the birthchart to discern the purpose and soulplan for the current incarnation - and who uses psychic ‘far memory’ to read past life causes or interlife choices. In other words, I examine the credits and deficits on a soul’s spiritual bank account – and how the present life is going to contribute to their growth or diminishment. Over forty five years spent exploring past lives, the afterlife, the interlife and the spaces in between have convinced me that we are not victims of circumstance nor are we solely a product of karmic consequences. We all have a soulplan we are following which may be overridden by soul overlays and past- their-sell-by-date soul contracts but which ultimately lead us to grow our soul. So, if you’re been asking yourself why certain things have happened to you the key may lie in other lives or in the space between lives – the interlife and your soul’s purpose. Some souls have chosen to undergo a specific life experience not because of their karma but because they want to cultivate their soul or to offer service to humanity. I’ve had a long (exceedingly long if you take other lives into account) training to do this work, including conducting hundreds of regressions, reading well over a thousand maps of the soul’s plan – the birthchart -  and talking to many ‘higher selves’ who have a much broader view than is possible from here on earth. I’ve accompanied numerous people into the interlife, attending the planning meeting at which they broadly map out the purpose and path of the present incarnation and the soul contracts that may go with it. I’ve also been to the life review that follows death to see how far that purpose was achieved. At one time I believed that, when it is viewed as purposeful, self-generated and subject to free-will, the process of reincarnation resolved all the great questions of life: providing a reason for ‘suffering’, the ‘fairness’’ or otherwise of a situation a person finds him or herself in, and the apparent unjustness of one short life – plus recognising that current life actions will have consequences. However, I’ve come to the conclusion that there is more to it than that. Soul overlays that contain old soul contracts not yet rescinded can have a powerful effect on the present life. These soul overlays present as an ingrained, repeating pattern over many lifetimes that, while it may have its roots in karma, has little to do with consequences - being more like an old gramophone needle stuck in a groove of ‘must do’ that needs to be shed by the soul. Distinguishing between present life soul purpose and past life soul overlays that have carried over into the present life is challenging.  They trip up many a soul’s evolutionary intent as deeply ingrained imperatives often seem to be determined to play out at all costs and can take a great deal of disentangling and renegotiation – which can spread out over a surprisingly long period of time as the layers peel back. It can be difficult as we start out on our journey to distinguish between our karmic consequences, the soul contracts we have made and the purpose we have incarnated to fulfil. However, even I am continually surprised by how the unfolding of what appears, on the surface, to be karmic or an overwhelming catastrophic event that is beyond personal karma may well be a soul choice to grow through exceedingly difficult circumstances not from karmic compulsion but from a soul choice. Rather than a dire event being karmic retribution, reparation or restitution, what seems to be a collective disaster may be a set of circumstances specially chosen by the soul as an opportunity for learning, or for service to humanity or compassionate witnessing of our plight. Compassionate witnessing is a somewhat pretentious term for an unconditional, non-judgmental observation of ourselves and others. I will never forget working to facilitate a group soul rescue at the site of one of the most horrendous death camps. As the souls were freed and passed through a portal of light, they each turned to help the next soul up, forming a long chain. It mattered not on which side the soul had fought, or that before passing through the portal they had appeared to be mortal enemies for all time. An internee would turn to help a guard and, after passing through the portal, they would embrace and go on their way together. When I asked about this, I was told that this particular group had incarnated knowing what would happen and hoping that, by allowing the world to witness the worst horrors one race could perpetrate on another, it would never happen again. Although that was the overriding group soul intention, within that many individual souls were expanding their own soul learning. Soul Journey   [caption id="attachment_4564" align="alignleft" width="300"] www.mindbodyspiritualawareness.com[/caption] So, here you are a soul that is waiting to incarnate, to set out on a great journey. What exactly are you? Where are you? How are you going to come back? And are you ‘all of a piece’ or are some parts of your soul stuck in other incarnations or dimensions? Let’s start with the soul itself. The soul has been defined as ‘the immaterial part of man’, ‘the moral and emotional portion of man’, or ‘the intellectual part of man’. Not very helpful definitions as far as I am concerned. In some views, the soul is immortal, in others divine. It may be a vessel for divine spirit or a part of the universal mind. All very boring and nothing like the reality that emerges from personal experience of this state of being. It is clear from regressions, near death or out of body experiences, spontaneous rememberings and communications from beyond death that the most singular characteristic of a soul is its aliveness and, at the level of vibration nearest to the earth, its individuality. It is conscious and aware, capable of movement and choice, and it has a cohesive identify. The last thing the soul is is ‘dead’. It is also clear that the soul may inhabit many different dimensions and timeframes all at the same time. So, how did it become ‘a soul’? Well, in modern esoteric belief, the soul has ‘split off’ from a pool of spiritual essence and moves through increasingly heavy vibrations until it takes on solid form and resides in a physical body. In the process, it may well split from or form part of a larger soul group or group soul several times. It may fragment and reintegrate. I wish the process was simply to describe, it would make talking about it so much easier. But unfortunately, the more experience I have, the complex the process seems to become. However, what I do find useful is the concept that the soul and the universe are essentially and energetically holographic – and can therefore reflect and experience all the other parts of itself when it has fragmented as, like a holograph, it will contain the whole. As it is energetic rather than physical, it only takes a small leap to say that a hologram is the sum of its parts and can communicate with and receive experiences from its many fragmentations (something we’ll look at later). In my view, the soul is the carrier for a spark of original spirit – but, like a hologram that spirit permeates through the soul and the physical body, it is not separate. So it can be everywhere at once, along with its energetic vessel the soul, or be carried in soul fragments. I also believe that we have a ‘small self’ down here in incarnation at the densest level of being: the physical. But we also have a ‘higher self’ that is not fully in incarnation and which has access to other realms of being and is therefore much wiser than the ‘me-down-here’. (I use ‘up’ and ‘down’ in terms of vibratory levels as this helps me to navigate through complex dimensions.) This higher self too is holographic and knows what soul contracts have been made, full extent of the soulplan for the present incarnation and where it fits into the soul’s overall evolutionary plan as well as the soul’s history. It also keeps track of incarnatory experiences and guides the soul towards understanding and fulfilment. My higher self is what I use to contact both the Akashic Record (which holds the imprint of all that has been or will be) and a client’s higher self when undertaking karmic readings or regressions. Why on earth would the soul want to go through all that it encounters on Earth, I can hear you ask. Well, the purpose seems to be evolution of the greater whole with individual souls taking their learning back to the bigger group and, ultimately, to consciousness as a whole. As a guide once put it ‘soul wants to know itself’. As to the where the soul is after death, as the same guide said to me ‘we haven’t gone anywhere, we’ve just moved to a higher vibration that interweaves with your world’. Apparently in terms of distance, they were close by but in terms of resonance, they could be a very long way away indeed as the dimensions expanded and the vibrations lightened. However, it has to be said that while many souls report being located on far away planets beyond our solar system during the interlife all have to return close to the earth to begin the journey or reincarnation back into a physical body if they are to incarnate again on this planet. From many years of regressing people to the between life state, it has become obvious to me that some people plan their new incarnation extremely carefully and others pop back without much thought. Both are drawn back by unfinished business, the difference being in how they plan – or don’t plan - to deal with it and, in addition, those who plan usually have a purpose to develop or evolve. It has also become apparent to me that souls are not ‘all of a piece’.  We can easily leave a part of our soul somewhere back in another life whether the death was less than satisfactory, for instance, just as we can leave a part of ourselves back in childhood at a traumatic event. Soul retrieval has been practised by shamans for hundreds if not thousands of years for this very reason. So, for me, the soul is a vehicle for the eternal spirit just as our physical body is a carrier for the soul whilst in incarnation. Soul splits Shamanic practitioners and many regression therapists take it for granted that the soul is not ‘all of a piece’. That is to say, a soul is not an indivisible entity. It can combine and recombine with others members of a soul group, for instance, but it can also fragment to remain behind in a traumatic incarnation - or a particularly joyful one. A hologram can be both here and there, split or and yet still cohesive. Gathering up pieces of the soul so that it can reintegrate has been practised by soul retrieval practitioners throughout aeons of time and it can be extremely helpful in cases where someone does not feel fully present or in some psychiatric illnesses. Pieces of a soul may be left earlier in the present life, or in other lives and it is part of past life therapy to retrieve and reintegrate these fragments as appropriate. Soul splits can also be created by widely differing past lives. One common ‘either end of the spectrum saga’ centres around the sexuality-spirituality axis. If someone has taken a vow of celibacy in a previous life, and not rescinded it, it can be re-activated either through a past life remembering (which may be spontaneous or through regression) or borne deep in the soul as a spiritual unease that finds it really difficult to commit to intimacy with another person. Explanations about how the body comes back into incarnation, whether the choice is made by the soul or, seemingly, forced upon it, and the decisions concerning what is to happen varies in religious teaching and in regression experiences. The decision may arise from an unfulfilled desire on the soul’s part or prodding from the higher self to evolve. From past life work, it would seem that most souls have at least a modicum of choice, although there are some people who do not progress far enough in the interlife to make an informed choice. They simply ‘bounce back’ into incarnation because of a strong desire to be in a physical body again, to be with a particular person, or ingrained patterns, addictions or old promises or vows that have not been rescinded. The major challenge for the present life may be to break the habits of lifetimes or to release someone – or oneself – from an outdated promise or soul contract. It is people who incarnate without plan or preparation but who carry a strong soul overlay that could be said to be ‘fated’ and to experience life as an implacable ‘hand of God’ steering them into situations. On the other hand, someone who may appear to be ‘fated’ because of trauma, illness or difficult life situations may have actually prepared most carefully for the incarnation and will have a profound reason for making that choice. It may be for personal growth and learning, to work out karma or develop a new attribute, or to assist other people in their lessons or intentions. If too much is left to chance and someone skips over or ignores the stage of planning the next incarnation, things can go awry. The soul may arrange to meet up with someone for a specific task but somehow doesn’t get around to the details so misunderstandings and karmic enmeshments arise. There may be a vague, unfulfilled feeling that the soul should be doing something but is not sure what. People can incarnate into inappropriate bodies or settings for what they want to do. So, the interlife planning stage is extremely important. The planning meeting At the ‘planning meeting’ guides and teachers help the soul to assess what progress it has made, to identify the conditions needed for new growth and any reparation that may be required, and to find appropriate parents to provide the genetic and cultural inheritance, emotional ambience and environmental influences needed for the new incarnation or to create a completely new script, one that is created to serve another in their growth. Under regression, most people who are in the interlife considering their options for the next incarnation visit what I call the planning department. They meet with their higher self, members of their soul group, guides and other advisers and are shown what they have already learned, or failed to learn, in other lives. This meeting frequently presents just like a board meeting with people sitting around a table with audio visual/multi-media equipment ready to review the past and explore possibilities for the future. Discussions are held with those with whom we intend to incarnate once again. If a soul needs to learn a hard lesson or to immerse itself in a particular ambience, mistaken beliefs or toxic emotional states, for the sake of understanding or reframing, then this is when someone from the soul group may volunteer to provide the difficult circumstances which will allow us to develop insight. A ‘resonance frequency’, in other words a similar and familiar vibration, may have been set up over several lives within a soul group who all had roles in the soul drama that unfolded and this may draw a soul group back together, willingly or otherwise, so that the saga can be reworked or framed. If the soul group is conscious and aware of the pattern, then this will be discussed at the planning meeting but if it is not aware, then the ‘resonance frequency’ will act like an imperative soul overlay pulling the participants together to re-enact the story once again. If only one soul has become conscious of the saga, this may be enough to break the patter – provided awareness is retained or reactivated during the current life. At the planning meeting too we programme in the illnesses, dis-eases and seeming disasters that will focus us back on what we intend to be doing with our life to grow our soul and we may well chose a genetic inheritance that contains that potential. Of course, once in incarnation we forget that this is a soul who loves us enough to help us learn that lesson and who has offered us the gift, or that we made that particular choice. It feels like fate or the hand of God intervening. Insight may only come at the last possible minute. So, for instance, if we have an old soul overlay that says ‘I don’t deserve love’, we will tend to take on experiences where we lack love to such an extent that we simply have to find this for and within our own self. A woman who came on one of my workshops listened with great interest when I spoke about this but said nothing. The next day she came to the workshop and told us that she had been estranged from her mother for a long time. As she left the workshop she had received word that her mother was in hospital in a coma and not expected to live. She went to the hospital and sat by the side of her mother’s bed. ‘Well mother’ she said, ‘if we incarnated together for you to teach me what it’s like not to have been loved, to have been overlooked while others were favoured even to the extent of a child brought in from outside the family being loved while I wasn’t, to have been abused and misused and to have felt so small that I wanted to extinguish myself then you did well. You completely snuffed out my sense of being a person and helped me to live out my ‘I don’t deserve love’ script. You did it so well that I simply had to find out who I was for myself and to love myself as I was, so I thank you for a job well done and I forgive you and myself’. Her mother opened her eyes ‘That’s alright dear’, she said, ‘that was what I was here for. I love you’. With that she closed her eyes and died. Despite her grief, the daughter came be to the workshop the next day to tell us what had happened because she was so in awe of the timing. ‘If we hadn’t had that conversation yesterday’, she said, ‘I would have died hating her and feeling unloved. As it is, I know she was playing her part in my drama.’ In the workshop we carried out a ceremony to thank and forgive the mother’s soul for playing her part so well and help her on her way. The genetic, environmental and belief system possibilities for a new family are also explored in the interlife. Sometimes there will be one option but at other times there will be several, all of which have to be weighed up to see which is most appropriate. This process is universal and is reflected in the most ancient of scriptures although choice is less of a factor here. This may well reflect the soul’s evolution and assumption of more responsibility as it matures. However, no matter how carefully we may plan, everyone has freewill and others involved in our drama may choose to go their own way. Say we have been souls who were too closely bound in another life and agreed to go our separate ways in the current life. But one person forgot that when in incarnation and clung on desperately while the other strove to be free. The resulting struggle may take many lifetimes to resolve. The soulplan The soulplan created at the planning meeting includes the soul’s spiritual purpose in incarnating and also brings in opportunities to confront repeating patterns or ingrained attitudes that the soul wishes to change. If the soul has unfinished business, either as karma or as promises or contracts that have been made in other lives, the soul may also plan to deal with this in the present incarnation or these may lie undetected as soul overlays that will unconsciously influence the soul once it has incarnated again. To me this soulplan is laid out in the astrological chart as the soul carefully chooses a moment to be born that reflects all the issues and potentials and soul intentions. This soulplan is not rigid, however. It is an outline rather than a line by line account of how the life will go. It is adaptable but it does have structure. The soul chooses a family situation, for example, which will reiterate attitudes, experiences or lessons from the past which the soul wants to confront. The soulplan will have ‘key moments’’ and trigger events mapped out so that karmic meetings or fateful decisions occur. It may also incorporate a point when previous life memories will become conscious once more to aid the soul in its evolution. For the most part, the soul does not carry a conscious awareness of past lives, although these can take the form of vivid dreams or memories almost from birth. Such memories usually occur when the last death has been violent and premature and there is a ‘break through’ of the memories because the membrane between the lives is very thin. Incarnating Why don’t we remember? Macrobius, Roman philosopher 236-184BCE, in his Commentary on Cicero’s Dream of Scipio (The Republic, 6th book) gives the best explanation I’ve found. As soon as the soul gravitates towards the body, in the first production of herself, she begins to experience the material tumult, that is, matter flowing into her essence. And this is what Plato remarks in the Phaedo, that the soul is drawn into body, staggering with recent intoxication, signifying by this the new drink of matter’s impetuous flood, through which the soul becoming defiled and heavy, is drawn into a terrene situation. But the starry cup, placed between Cancer and Lion, is a symbol of this mystic truth, signifying that descending souls first experience intoxication in that part of the heavens, through the influx of matter. Hence, oblivion, the companion of intoxication, there begins to creep into the recesses of the soul. For if souls retained in their descent to bodies the memory of divine concerns of which they were conscious in the heavens, there would be no dissension amongst men, concerning divinity. Reading the Akashic Record The birthchart and the Akashic Record can both be regarded as a record of the soul’s journey. Using far memory enables us to access the Akashic Record and plug into relevant lives and the interlife planning meeting. It can go even further through regression to other lives. The Akashic Records are an on-going record of the journey of the soul, the evolution of this and other worlds, and the future of All that Is. In this view, anyone living now has probably lived on earth before – and will live again, possibly on earth but most definitely in other realms. All my exploration of the Records – which has extended over forty five years now – has been in conjunction with reincarnation, soul purpose and the soul’s journey. It hasn’t mattered where the soul happened to be residing at the time. Before we look at why it’s beneficial to read the record, we need to establish – as best we can – what the Record is as opinions vary widely and some are more liberally interpreted than others. Definitions The frequency grid programs that create our reality. Crystal Links. The Akashic Records are a universal filing system which record every occurring thought, word, and action: a collection of mystical knowledge stored in the etheric levels. The vibrational records of each individual soul and its journey are contained here, making it a profound spiritual resource for consciousness development and expanded spiritual awareness… [It is] a dimension of consciousness that contains a vibrational record... Location and time do not affect the Record. Linda Howe The akashic record is an imagined spiritual realm, supposedly holding a record of all events, actions, thoughts and feelings that have ever occurred or will ever occur.  Theosophists believe that the akasha is an "astral light" containing occult records which spiritual beings can perceive by their special "astral senses" and "astral bodies". Clairvoyance, spiritual insight, prophecy and many other untestable metaphysical and religious notions are made possible by tapping into the akasha. Skeptics Dictionary Akasha is one of the cosmic principles and is a plastic matter, creative in its physical nature, immutable in its higher principles. It is the quintessence of all possible forms of energy, material, psychic, or spiritual; and contains within itself the germs of universal creation, which sprout forth under the impulse of the Divine Spirit. Mme Blavatsky, Alchemy and the Secret Doctrine. The Book of Life can be likened to the universe’s supercomputer system. Kevin L. Todeschi Upon time and space is written the thoughts, the deeds, the activities of an entity – as in relationships to its environs, its hereditary influence, as directed – or judgement drawn by or according to what the entity’s ideal is. Edgar Cayce. The Akashic Field contains not merely a passive record of a person’s consciousness, created during that person’s lifetime and then persisting unchanged, but also harbors a dynamic bundle of information based on the experiences accumulated in that lifetime.. this bundle of information – a quantum hologram – is capable of development even in the absence of the living brain and body that created it. Ervin Laszlo The Akasha is essentially spirit. It is the spirit record of the individual.. a storage in consciousness that is everywhere present. Just as with the DNA genetic code being present everywhere in your physical body, it could be read from any extract from your body. C.A.C. The Akashic Records are like the DNA of the universe. Ernesto Ortiz. So, the Akashic Record is a cosmic memory bank containing all that has been and all possibilities that are to come. But, is the Akashic Record a computer, that is the hardware behind our experience, or merely one of several available programs for running it? And does it merely cover the past with an effect on the present, or does it also contain the future? The concept of an Akashic Record has existed for at least five thousand years. In ancient Mesopotamia, it was called The Tablets of the Destinies and was under the control of the planetary god Ninurta, or Saturn who became in esoteric and Indian astrology the Lord of Karma and Time. The Tablets of the Destinies implies that this was what would happen to you but it’s not quite your fate as it’s clear from the ancient Mesopotamian writings that you could petition a god to intervene in your destiny, especially if it wasn’t a very nice one. You could also by your own actions amend that destiny. [caption id="attachment_4565" align="alignleft" width="300"] Thoth and the Tablet of the Destinies[/caption] In ancient Egypt it was the god Thoth, or Tehuti, who was in charge of tablets of a slightly different kind. These recorded your actions, thoughts, motives and so on during your lifetime and were presented at the judging of heart after death. It was these that influenced your fate, if the heart was lighter than the feather of Maat – cosmic justice or equilibrium – then you could safely pass on to the afterlife. If it was heavier, you’d be gobbled up by the eater of souls who waited under the scales and that was the end of you. The Jews were in both Egypt and Mesopotamia and had a concept of a ‘Book of Life’  - which later became incorporated into the concept of a Recording Angel. In Exodus – written after the Jews had been in Egypt – Moses asks God to forgive the people the sin of making the golden calf saying: If not, blot me out of the book that you have written’ In other words, don’t blame me, I wasn’t even there! Similarly King David in psalm 139 says: In your book were written All the days that were formed for me, When none of them as yet existed, which suggests the idea of a foreordained fate. In India the Akasha or cosmic sky was a Sanskrit concept in which all of human history was encoded in a non-physical plane of existence. In my experience, the Akashic Record is a not a record of a fixed fate but rather an outline map of a soul’s journey with all the potentialities that opens up – and from mine and my clients’ experiences, it goes way out into the future with myriad possibilities opening up. We can view the Akashic Record as a hologram of all that is and might be – it is not in any one place as it permeates our whole universe but we can nevertheless access it as though it were indeed a Hall of Records. Our souls are connected to this hologram, each carrying a small piece of the hologram within that contains the whole. In many regressions to the interlife state souls will visit the library – or the hologram – to collect up experiences, soul gifts, wounds and karma that will be dealt with during the lifetime to come and to recognise how to prepare for lives in the future. Souls play out the destinies we planned for ourselves in the space between lives – the  interlife – although this plan may be powerfully affected by the karma we have accrued and by soulplans from others lives that, although outdated, still overlay our soul’s intention (see The Book of Why: exploring your soul’s journey). So, through accessing the Akashic Record we can see both what we have been (our previous lives) and what we might be - our potential futures depending on what choices we make. Many seers connect to the Akashic Record when doing readings of various kinds, although they may call it Spirit, Source and so on. I access the Akashic Record via my client’s higher self and soul memory when using far memory to explore my client’s past lives. [caption id="attachment_4558" align="alignleft" width="300"] Potential parallel lives[/caption] While everyone ‘sees’ the Record in their own way, the underlying experience is always the same. It is a connection in to what we can call the wisdom of the cosmic mind or the cosmic memory field. Successful reading of the Akashic Record needs practice and becomes much easier as time goes by. This is Edgar Cayce’s description of how he accessed the record: [take in p.xvii] Speaking for myself, I very quickly learned to bypass all the lower realms and go straight to the soul’s records via the higher self – the part that isn’t fully incarnated into the physical body and so can see much further than the ‘us’ down here. It isn’t so much that I go anywhere, just that I change my level of vibration and expand my consciousness so that I become aware of so much more. Then I can contact any other soul and ‘read’ the record for them. I’ve also taken literally hundreds of souls to read their own records over the past forty years and most often the records do present themselves as a library and a book or dvd. Actually, these days I don’t actually have to go to visit the Record in order to tune into the information - and anyway, as I believe we hold a hologram of the Record in our soul, it’s more a case of withdrawing from the outside world and there it is but I did when I started. As my mentor Christine Hartley, who taught me a different method to that used by Cayce, always emphasised, it is important to distinguish between what you really see and what you’d like to see. As a writer herself she was all too aware of wanting to bring the threads together into a coherent whole, which is when the conscious mind starts to intervene and clarity is lost. It is important to record your impressions immediately afterwards or, as I do, by speaking or writing them at the time without embellishment although you can add extra insights. [caption id="attachment_4554" align="alignleft" width="293"] Christine Hartley aged 88[/caption] Christine worked in such a deep state of inner withdrawal that she rarely remembered her perceptions afterwards – having to play the tape back or read the notes to recall her ‘seeings’. Her concentration was so intense and so inwardly focused that, in a session in London during the war, she once failed to hear an air raid siren to which, as a part time air raid warden, she would usually respond automatically. I’ve known people not hear a fire alarm test in a building they were in and I rarely hear anything around me. I found it easy to train myself to either write or speak, without going so deep that I lost awareness, so it becomes, in my terminology, ‘a straight through job’. I rarely retain the memory afterwards, which is beneficial as I could not possibly hold onto all the impressions I receive in the course of a year let alone a lifetime. Nowadays too I often don’t actually ‘see’ anything and I simply have to trust that the impressions are there and start speaking, whereupon it all spills out. At other times I clearly see a figure and have to describe how it is dressed before I can continue. Why would you want to access the record? Well, as Ernesto Ortiz pointed: We can look at why we have addictive patterns, why we choose the relationships we do, why we have created our habitual responses, and how to create action in our lives instead of reaction. And, I would add, we can look at our soul purpose and the reason we choose to incarnate in the first place and contracts with people we meet. We can take Edgar Cayce as an example of how knowing your past and why you are here assists adapting to your present day circumstances. A devout Christian, Cayce found it hard to come to come to terms with his trancework. When Cayce read the record for himself he believed himself to have been Pythagoras and several early spiritual teachers. [caption id="attachment_4559" align="alignright" width="233"] Pythagoras[/caption] He discovered he’d learn to enter a trance state when a Persian physician. Wounded in a battle, he had been left to die. Without food or water for three days, he was in agony. By a supreme effort, he detached his consciousness from his body. An ability that stood him in good stead in his current life as he could put himself into trance at will. Cayce first went into trance to find the cause of a throat condition that literally left him speechless. If Cayce did not do the work he was intended to do – his readings – then his throat closed up and he could not speak. Cayce stated that he had accrued karma as a strong willed and sensual Egyptian priest who broke his vow of celibacy in order to create ‘a perfect child’. He was reborn twice as John Bainbridge, once in the l7th and then against in the l8th century. Both men had a lustful disposition and were restless and unhappy. Cayce said that he had had to undergo those lives as he needed to know extremes before he could help others. At the end of the second John Bainbridge life, he gave his own life to save that of another. Cayce felt that his current lifetime was a ‘test for his soul’. His work gave him an opportunity to overcome the pride, materialism and sensuality of his past lives and to serve humankind selflessly. Through his readings he helped thousands of souls find healing. Cayce predicted his next life would be in 2100 in Nebraska but someone on the internet is already claiming to be the spirit of Cayce returned. Judy Hall, Crystals Podcast – transcript As the sound quality of this recording was not sufficient to broadcast, Watkins and Steve Nobel kindly gave permission for the transcript to be shared with you. PRESENTER Hello, and welcome to Watkins Wise Words, a podcast that celebrates conscious, passionate, wise and happy living. Thank you for tuning in. And here is your host: STEVE (Nobel) So, hello and welcome, my name is Steve Nobel and today I’m speaking with Judy Hall on crystals for healing, protection and good vibrations. Judy is an internationally known author, astrologer, psychic healer and workshop leader and she’s been a Karmic counsellor for over 45 years, an author of a number of books including the Crystal Bibles. Her books have been translated into I believe about 15 languages and if you’re interested in Judy go to her website which is www.judyhall.co.uk and one of her most recent offerings is The Crystal Wisdom Healing Oracle which is produced by Watkins and this will help you connect to your higher intuitive self and give you amazing insights into past, present and future a great gift for guidance and knowledge. So, Judy, hi, welcome to you. JUDY (Hall) Thank you very much, It’s good to be here. STEVE Judy, can I ask you how did you get into the subject of crystals in the first place? JUDY That goes back right back to my childhood and being with my grandfather in the Lake District and walking. Virtually everywhere under your feet were sparkly shiny things that I picked up as a very small child and took back with me. It wasn’t until years later that I really realised they had healing properties. I was like a magpie. I was always drawn to them. STEVE Right, and you’ve written quite a lot on the subject now, so you must have quite an extensive knowledge.  Do you use crystals a lot in your own personal life? JUDY Yes, I do and, virtually, I think, work through every crystal there is available to see what it offers. And I’ve always got a crystal or two about my person depending what I’m doing. Obviously, I have favourites and a small toolkit that I use for me. But I just love exploring the new crystals and try not to limit them by expecting them to do something in particular, just waiting to see what they will do, if I let them. STEVE Yes, OK, so, I mean, for healing, do you agree with the general rule that some people have that, you know, the colour of the stone, if you match the colour of the stone with the colour of the chakra, you know, like green for heart, that will generally have a healing effect on the body? JUDY Well, yes it does, but there’s two things here. One is that the chakra colours are fairly recent attributions. The use of healing crystals goes back much, much earlier and if you look at early illustrations of the chakras they are all sorts of different colours. So it’s a rule that I think can be broken, it’s not as inflexible as some people would have you believe. But the other thing is that people’s vibrations are changing so rapidly now that crystals that perhaps ten, fifteen years ago would have suited them and might well have adhered to green for the heart are no longer appropriate. Actually, now, you need a different vibration a different resonance [STEVE: yes] and that colour may be white, it maybe golden. It’s very much for me a case of fitting the crystals to the person, not following a rule. STEVE Right. Can I ask you about that vibrational change, is that something around the planet itself shifting? JUDY I hope so! I think astrologers are very aware that we are shifting literally from Pisces into Aquarius. [STEVE: Yes] and that’s a different vibration. All the work I do, really, is about trying to bring in a higher finer vibration both into people and into the earth itself so that the planet does benefit from our help in shifting, and apparently it’s shifting and clearing, but equally it is bringing in this higher potential which is always there but we need to activate it. STEVE Yes. Do you find that there are new crystals coming on the market, I’ve got on me, something, I think it’s called Angelic Aura or something, it’s quartz which has got titanium electrically passed through it. Do you know about this stone? JUDY Yes. STEVE Are there a lot more of these newer combinations coming up now? JUDY Well, yes, but those  Aura Quartzes are alchemical products, not natural. A process has been done and it’s not even new. It dates back to ancient Egypt. They amended crystals and changed the vibration. But nature itself is producing now crystals that have that same iridescence that aura quartzes have. So you get Anandalite which is a white crystal with a natural rainbow sheen and that is amazing in its vibration. You find Rainbow Mayanite, which is a golden one with rainbows on and they are phenomenal in what they can do and how quickly they can do it. The aura of quartzes which are manufactured is done in response to the need for cheaper versions of those stones. One of the problems is that lately I’ve found a lot of the crystals that are allegedly alchemicalised with precious metals actually have been dyed to give you the colour.  [STEVE: Oh, really?] And that really isn’t a good thing. I use one that’s been done with titanium - it’s a Tanzine Aura Quartz. I used that to restart my thyroid when my thyroid had basically died on me. I wore it and my thyroid is now working well again. So I recommended it to a friend, who’s partner runs a crystal shop. He got Tanzine Aura Quartz, or what purported to be, and she came out in a rash. She was really ill from it and the supplier said to him ‘oh, it must be the dye’. So it hasn’t been electrostatically charged, which is what the way mine had happened. You have to be very careful. STEVE Yes. I’m pretty sure the one I’ve got is not dyed but [JUDY: Oh no] but go for a respectable crystal dealer, hopefully, JUDY Well, yes, and check it out. I think it’s just a case of common sense. You, know, how does the crystal feel to you? And where possible, I prefer the natural stone that hasn’t been interfered with in any way because that suits me. For somebody else, our alchemicalised stones may be the best answer. STEVE Yes.  Can I ask you, kind of coming more to ground? We live in a society that’s full of stress, anxiety and we can say negativity, in quotation marks. What crystals would you carry for neutralising this? Let’s say you are living in a city and you, you know, are on the underground and all this kind of thing. What would be a great crystal or crystals to carry? JUDY With there are two that I never come to London without, for instance. One is Labradorite. It is a shield. It protects my energy from external energies, but it still allows me to be aware of what’s going on, which I find helpful. The other is Shungite [STEVE: Oh, yes] which is comparatively new to the crystal market although it’s been used in Russia for many years. The beauty of Shungite is it blocks EMF frequencies and as someone who is highly sensitive to those, I really find that it makes such a difference if I’ve got Shungite on. All the people with mobile phones or the wifi, everything like that, that does not suit my body; I can’t even use a mobile phone, although if I put Shungite on it just about makes it bearable. But wearing it means all people around me, even on the train you’ve got people with phones and whatever else they’re using, I can sit there in complete peace and quiet with my Shungite on. STEVE [10] Brilliant. I bought a load of Shungite actually for helping purify water as well, I think it has those qualities. JUDY Oh, it does, I mean I never drink anything else but Shungite water and the raw stuff in a bag in my water filter or some pieces in my water bottle which I fill up and take with me, is always with me and I’ve found, over four or five years now, it’s really improved my resistance to all kinds of bugs and things that in the past, again getting on the train, going to London come back, get a cold. I don’t do that now. Very rarely do I get anything.  And this is someone who had pneumonia - used to have pneumonia - very easily. Since I started with Shungite water I haven’t had that and I heal very quickly. STEVE Brilliant. So coming to electromagnetics, I’ve got a lot of computers and people do work with them all the time, I’ve heard various things, I haven’t heard about Shungite, but I’ve heard about, you know, amethyst, tourmaline, or even er… orgonite little pyramid on my computer here. What would you suggest generally for computers? JUDY I did a book called Crystal Prescriptions on EMFs because there’s such a wide variety and again it’s very much what suits you rather than what is the only stone. But on my computer, I can see from here, yes, I’ve got an Orgonite pyramid, I’ve got a piece of Amethyst I’ve got Shungite, I’ve got, look, I’m just having a peep, Black Tourmaline, they all help. And the thing that a lot of people forget is that you don’t just put them there and leave them there, you need to cleanse them frequently - [STEVE: Yes] – because they do absorb the emanations but they also put out a good vibe to counteract the effects. And my absolute, if I could have only one, for EMF on the computer it would be Shungite. But I like using the others to give me a variety of possibilities just to keep my body on track, so it doesn’t get too used to it. Having different stones means that the energies shift around, the protective energies shift around. STEVE Yes. One I forgot to mention which I have quite close always is Selenite. What do you think about Selenite? JUDY I love Selenite. I use it as a light bringer – [STEVE: Yes] – It is protective, but I feel quite protective of Selenite myself, which may sound silly but it’s like to me it comes to bring divine light and so I don’t really want to use it to soak up nasty vibrations. I want to use it to put out light and so, whenever I’ve done a layout, or I’ve done a cleansing or a clearing, it’s my go-to crystal to then bring light in and heal wherever something’s been, or I’ve always got one in the house just to radiate its energy out so that it feels good. STEVE Yes. But another stone I’m particularly interested in, I’m actually wearing a ring of it, is Moldavite, now this is something actually that when I put it on it took me about a week to get used to. JUDY [Laughing] I was just laughing to myself as you said ‘I’m wearing Moldavite’, I thought, yes. It’s a great stone and I think it’s a stone that has really changed its vibrations. It’s kind of uplifted itself over the last few years. As the planet and the energies have shifted and higher vibrations are coming closer, it’s like Moldavite has responded. But it is a stone that, if you’re not used to working with crystals, can completely knock you flat on your back. I’ve a friend whose wife runs a crystal shop and he’s a thatcher, and sits on a roof a lot, but is a very down-to-earth guy. H picked up Moldavite and it literally knocked him on his back, he had to sit down very quickly. He’s now got used to it but it can take a while. It’s so interesting because it brought in a different vibration itself because it came in from outer space and then it fused with the earth. It can actually grow and grow to higher vibrations as well as taking you up to a different level. STEVE There’s another, Tektite, I’m very interested in Tektites for some reason. I bought one in Glastonbury, Libyan Glass Tektite, do you know of that one that looks like …? JUDY Libyan Gold? STEVE Gold, yes. JUDY Oh, yes. It’s actually in Tutankhamun’s funeral pectoral. STEVE Oh, is it? JUDY They knew it that long ago. Again, it’s one that landed in the desert, fused with the sand and it, for me, has tremendous knowledge locked into it. I’m addicted to ancient Egypt, as anyone will tell you,  because I think it was very spiritually aware, but a sense that in that time of the gods, everything was alive, infused with the gods. So it wasn’t that the gods were, or a god was, separate, you know, anything was there and it was alive and it’s like for me the Libyan Glass Tektites breathed in that awareness. Every statue was sacred, everything that survived, everything’s imbued with the gods and there is cosmic knowledge as well. STEVE Yes. Yes, it’s amazing, it cost me an arm and a leg I couldn’t afford it really. JUDY I can imagine. STEVE Can I ask you about some of the favourites, you know, like two probably all-time favourites, Amethyst and Rose Quartz. Can I ask you about general use of those two? JUDY Yes, erm … Rose Quartz I always use for heart healing and emotional pain of any kind. It’s a very good forgiveness stone, so that’s always in my toolkit. Amethyst I’m particularly interested in. I’m writing about this at the moment so it’s very much in my mind. Because Amethyst is one of the stones that you now get in different varieties from different places - [STEVE: Yes] -  and the vibration of that the healing resonance is rising all the time. I wouldn’t be without a Brandenberg Amethyst. So Brandenberg and Shungite are the two that I’ve always got with me and Brandenbergs come from this one sacred mountain in Namibia. But they will do anything and everything that I ask. They work on every level and they hold within them the perfect blueprint before anything else got imprinted and so you can hold it, wear it, do what you will with it. But it entrains your energy back to a more perfect state and that really is the basis of all healing. STEVE OK, brilliant. What about … I think a lot of people struggle with grounding, you know particularly people who are attracted to crystals, or maybe their energy’s more ‘up’ than down? Are there crystals that can help us stay in the body and be more grounded? JUDY Absolutely. It’s another of my things I bang on a lot about and when we do workshops it’s the first thing people have to do with me is ground, ground and then ground some more. And one of the best things I use is completely free, I love free crystals as you can imagine, and that’s a piece of Flint – [STEVE: Right] – It just spins energies down into the earth but it doesn’t shut off the higher contact. I use Smokey Quartz as well. I also use Hematite, because, again, some people need a different stone, but on the whole I would say that Flint  is probably one of the quickest anchors that I’ve come across. [STEVE: Right] – So, carry that with you and you have a much stronger connection to the planet. STEVE Brilliant. What about general joy, good vibrations, optimism, energy you know, feeling more out there, up, expanded. JUDY I think really, you can’t beat Citrine. I love the light bright abundant energy of Citrine. If it’s more sort of earthy energy you need then I use Red Jasper or Carnelian. They seem to liven me up, probably that’s the best way to describe it. You have to hold it and breathe. I actually hold it just under the navel over the dantien and breathe right down to that crystal. Spend five minutes in the early morning doing that and you could have woken up feeling extremely tired, but by the time you’ve worked to the crystal you are up, energised and ready to go. STEVE Brilliant. My final question to you Judy is, what about connecting – let’s go up – higher self, angels, you know going out, of high guidance, what’s the best stones for that? JUDY Well that’s where I use Brandenberg amethyst for myself, but I think for other people,  things like the Celstite, Selenite, the Angel Aura quartz that you mentioned, anything that has the higher vibration within it that resonates with you. You know, if you pick a stone up and you feel yourself lift, it’s almost as though you come out of your body slightly, you’ve got more space. That’s the crystal that will take you up to any of the higher beings or the higher dimensions. STEVE Brilliant. So, just to remind people, your latest offering is, The Crystal Wisdom Healing Oracle deck , published by Watkins and your website is, www.judyhall.co.uk and Judy, it’s always a pleasure speaking with you and I wish you all the best with your work. JUDY Thank you. And the same to you, Steve.
