Pyramids. Reconstructing our view of history

20th October, 2017 Members Community

Solinus (250CE) pointed out the phenomenon of the ‘consumption of the shadow’ on the pyramid’s face. We also know from later accounts that the pyramid still had its casing stones on after this date.  We can safely assume that the effect was a part of the original design.

The wisdom of Terrie Pratchett

The wisdom of Terrie Pratchett

I spent a great deal of time last year researching the history of sacred geometry. It’s a topic to which I keep returning. It underpins and interlinks so much of what I’m interested in: astrology, sacred landscape, crystals, architecture and more. This time the research arose because I was writing a book on crystal grids: creating powerful layouts that harness crystal vibrations to universal energy codes. It led me to ask yet again, ‘Isn’t it time to rethink our view of ancient humans as ‘primitive, brutish and purely instinctual?’ Compelling evidence is emerging of the ancients’ capacity for complex, symbolic thought and advanced mathematical capability. Not to mention advanced building skills right across the globe – and the ability to reconfigure natural landscape into something significantly more. The pyramid, constructed according to the principles of sacred geometry, is a prime example.

Pyramids

The Earth is home to more than 10,000 pyramids and some of these ancient structures defy our modern understanding of construction and history. Many of these ancient pyramids are dated so far back in our known history that just their acknowledgement would completely rewrite all the history books.

10,000 pyramidsIn its purest form, a true pyramid consists of four identical triangles, which “spring” from a square base and culminate at a common point.  When reduced to its plane geometric components, it is an easy form to comprehend.  It is a far more daunting task to create the form in the built environment. Imagine that you are charged with the construction of a true pyramid, whose square base will cover 13 acres.  Perhaps your most daunting task will be ensuring that after decades of construction, the pyramid’s four sides will meet precisely at a point almost fifty stories above the ground.  Imagine further that as the builder you have no laser levels, transits or other sophisticated measuring devices at their disposal to aid in the construction process.  Well, don’t worry; it’s already been done! Almost 5000 years ago, the ancient Egyptians accomplished this very feat at the Great Pyramid in Giza.  [In Control at the Pyramids – an architect’s and builder’s answer to how the pyramids were built: Domenic A. Narducci III and Michael T. Lally]

I’m sure you’ll have heard of the pyramids in Egypt – there were way more than the three we so often see pictured – and the ones in Mesoamerica. (If you haven’t, you’ll find information in my books Crystals and Sacred Sites and  there’s extremely detailed information the excellent http://www.crystalinks.com/gpstats.html.) But did you know they were built using sacred geometry? And, what’s more, these aren’t the only places in the world where pyramids are found. Amongst many others, a trio of low angle, synthetic sandstone pyramids have been identified in Montevecchia, Italy in the foothills of the Alps. Pyramids also occur in Northern Africa, Austria, France, Bosnia, the Canary Islands, – and China. There’s even a ‘lost’ one in Alaska (http://www.thelastamericanvagabond.com/anthony-tyler/alaskas-ancient-pyramid/ a great source for conspiracy theorists as well as speculative archaeologists) and there is said to be an underwater pyramid complex off Japan. We’ll explore three of the sites that may be unfamiliar to you a little later, but first let’s look at sacred construction.

Sacred construction

The word ‘Geo-metry’ comes from the Greek words Geos meaning ‘Earth’ and Metron meaning ‘To measure’, which together literally translate as the ‘Measuring of the earth’ or ‘Earthly measurements’, an art which was traditionally restricted to the priest-hood. [http://www.ancient-wisdom.com]

In nature, we find patterns, designs and structures from the most minuscule particles, to expressions of life discernible by human eyes, to the greater cosmos. These inevitably follow geometrical archetypes, which reveal to us the nature of each form and its vibrational resonances. They are also symbolic of the underlying metaphysical principle of the inseparable relationship of the part to the whole. It is this principle of oneness underlying all geometry that permeates the architecture of all form in its myriad diversity. This principle of interconnectedness, inseparability and union provides us with a continuous reminder of our relationship to the whole, a blueprint for the mind to the sacred foundation of all things created. [Bruce Rawle]

The Labyrinth Society asked its members to define sacred geometry [https://labyrinthsociety.org/sacred-geometry]:

Alex Champion’s Definition
Sacred geometry is the contemplation and utilization of the archetypal geometric patterns of Nature for the purposes of spiritual communion and healing.

Robert Ferré’s Definition
“Sacred geometry is the act of studying the divine act of creation and then using that knowledge to create in the same way. By studying nature, we find that the basic building blocks of creation are geometric. Since a divine hand is responsible for originating the numbers and proportions of the manifest universe, that geometry is sacred. Studying sacred geometry leads us to truth and self-understanding. All societies use sacred geometry to construct their temples, sacred places, and art. Chartres Cathedral, for example. And its labyrinth. Numbers aren’t just for counting, nor are they just symbolic. They are the actual essence of everything that exists.”

Construction according to sacred principles literally recreates the formation of the world. In the case of pyramids, setting out those principles in stone. Its architecture is based on sacred geometry: the ‘codes of creation’ and the Fibonacci series of numbers: ‘the divine code’ from which is found the ‘golden mean.’

But it sometimes seems that, as Terry Pratchett suggested in his book Pyramids, ancient Egypt might actually have been evolving backwards from the point of view of our timeframe. The further you go back, the most sophisticated the knowledge becomes. They were extremely knowledgeable astronomers.

This from http://www.ancient-wisdom.com/sacredgeometry.htm:

Sacred Geometry and the Great Pyramid of Giza:

Sacred Geometry

The exterior angle of the ‘Great pyramid of Giza’ can be reproduced with the Vesica-piscis. It has been long suspected that the Great pyramid was a subsidiary of geometric knowledge. There are several other indications that sacred geometry was an important factor in the design of the pyramid.

The Sacred mean (Phi), was also recorded into the dimensions of the pyramid itself.

The Sacred mean (Phi), was also recorded into the dimensions of the pyramid itself.

Egyptian mathematicians arrived at a figure of 3.16 (as shown on the Rhind Papyrus), written 600 to 800 years later and far cruder than the precise ratio the great Pyramid seems to express. The figure of Pi is recorded into the dimensions of the Great Pyramid several times; As well as the Height/Perimeter ratio of the pyramid itself:

(2∏x H = Perimeter)

The perimeter of its main compartment, the so called “King’s Chamber,” is also exactly 3.14 times its length, and the large granite coffer or sarcophagus in this room shows the same proportion. In the earlier, rhomboidal or “Bent Pyramid” at Dashur, a few miles to the south, the sides begin to ascend at the same 2-Pi angle as the Great Pyramid, then change half way up to 3-Pi (43 ½º ) ratio.

Image: http://www.cheops-pyramide.ch/khufu-pyramid/pyramid-alignment.html

Image: http://www.cheops-pyramide.ch/khufu-pyramid/pyramid-alignment.html

The sides of the Great pyramid form an almost-perfect equilateral triangle and the pyramid is exactly aligned to the four cardinal points. The sides of the pyramid are slightly concave––an effect discovered in 1940 from aerial photographs. The radius of the bow is equal to the radius of the Earth. Measured with modern laser instruments, these precisely cut stones replicate exactly the curvature of the Earth. It stands at the exact center of the Earth’s greatest land mass. Its north–south axis (31° E) is the longest land meridian, and the east–west axis (30° N) is the longest parallel crossing land. These axes cross at Giza. The pyramid lies in the center of gravity of the land area of the planet, dividing the Earth’s land mass into virtually equal quarters. The platform on which it stands was cut from the bedrock with an accuracy of .5 inch (15 mm). The pyramids were built in sacred cubits. There are 25 pyramid inches in a cubit. Measured from corner to corner, the distance across the Great Pyramid is 365.24 cubits, the number of days in a solar year. The pyramid is a square circled. If the circumference of the pyramid is divided by twice its height, the result is 3.14159R or pi.’ [Crystals and Sacred Sites] All this, it would seem, achieved with a measuring rod, a weight and a piece of string – with the assistance of the shadow’s cast by the sun-god Ra and the movements of his celestial companions, the stars. (If you want to know the technical details of the construction, take a look at http://www.cheops-pyramide.ch/khufu-pyramid/pyramid-alignment.html)

As you can see from the map, the pyramids were carefully inserted into the landscape.

Orthodox Egyptologists suggest that the somewhat off-centre, random alignments of the three main Giza pyramids is the result of the terrain. Archaeoastronomers think differently. They propose that the pyramids are part of a star mar, mirroring the stars in Orion’s belt, and the Nile follows the same course on the ground as the Milky Way does in the sky. One is a reflection of the other: a cosmological correspondence…’  [Crystals and Sacred Sites.]

Orion’s BeltAs Robert Bauval and others have pointed out, the three main pyramids line up with Orion’s Belt

I’m happy to say the unorthodox view is gaining ground! It’s quite a few millenia now since the Greek historian Herodotus stated that Egypt and the Nile were a reflection of the heavens down here on Earth.

Moving up river

Moving up riverThere’s a natural pyramid towering above the Valley of Kings in Luxor, al-Qurn, known to the Ancient Egyptians as ta dehent, or ‘The Peak’. Sacred to the snake goddess Meretseger, it is probably why the valley was chosen as the burial site of the pharaohs. Archaeologists have also found the foundations of a man-made pyramid above the Valley. It was visible when I first flew over the area in a hot-air balloon some twenty five years ago. But the discovery was announced somewhat later.

Let’s take a look at some pyramids elsewhere in the ancient world.

Bosnia: alternative technology?

www.bosnianpyramid.com

www.bosnianpyramid.com

The Foundation of the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun (APBS) believes that the pyramidal site at Visocica is some 8,000 to 12,000 years old. The dating follows analysis of the materials taken from the site.

A recent carbon dating performed on a pyramid in Bosnia, proves it to be at least 25000 years old.

When I first heard about the Bosnian pyramids at Vosoko they were very much an outsider theory, put forward by a young and ever enthusiastic speculative archaeology explorer Dr Semir (Sam) Osmanagic. A charismatic man who could, as the old saying goes, ‘sell ice to Eskimos.’ He certainly convinced me – and that was before excavations had really begun. The suggestion that these five grassy hills could be pyramids was then about as politically incorrect, archaeological speaking, as the word Eskimo now is. Three of the pyramids, viewed from above, form a perfect 60 degree triangle on mountainous ground. The largest pyramid is a third as big again as the Great Pyramid of Giza. Built of piezeoelctric concrete, it is 220m in height and rises at an angle of 45°. The larges pyramid was immediately recognized by Osmanagic as having three plane faces orientated to the cardinal directions.

Things have moved on from that first lecture at Megalithomania however. The site has been excavated and some of its secrets revealed. I love that, in addition to the ubiquitous pyramids of the sun and moon, there is a ‘pyramid of the dragon’ and one of ‘Love’. The labyrinthine tunnels connected to the pyramids have been explored and crystals found within their depths. This was a site I very much wanted to include in Crystals and Sacred Sites but there was not enough empirical evidence available at the time. Things are somewhat different now, although the site is still generating immense controversy. The theory I personally prefer is that it is a vast energy generating system. Take a look at http://www.human-resonance.org/visoko.html to explore the vast connective resonances of this site with others around the world and also http://www.messagetoeagle.com/energybosnianpyramids.php#.WHJqN7mTM34 to really open your mind to the possibilities of stone technology.

What really stands out from this pyramid is something that really cannot be explained as natural. Emanating from the apex of the pyramid is a constant energy beam. This beam has been verified by at least four independent research teams with their own unique measuring equipment. Each of these teams came up with the same results. That there is a 10 metre electromagnetic beam of energy shooting into the sky in the frequency range of 28kHz. Is this pyramid still active as an energy machine? [http://thecrystalsun.com/pyramids-forces-us-to-change-our-understanding-of-history/]

Even today, there is a similar energy beam emanating from the top of the Giza pyramid (you can read more about it in Crystals and Sacred Sites.]

Massive balls

Semir Osmanagic with one of the Bosnian stone balls.

Semir Osmanagic with one of the Bosnian stone balls.

Starting with what may be the simplest and most perfect of forms, the sphere is an ultimate expression of unity, completeness, and integrity. There is no point of view given greater or lesser importance, and all points on the surface are equally accessible and regarded by the center from which all originate. Atoms, cells, seeds, planets, and globular star systems all echo the spherical paradigm of total inclusion, acceptance, simultaneous potential and fruition, the macrocosm and microcosm. [Bruce Rawles]

Associated with the Bosnian pyramids, although quite how is not yet clear, are a huge number of finely-worked possibly granite spheres. Like huge Moqui Marbles, which are sandstone concretions around an iron core. When in situ, these balls are found arranged in a triangle on mountains. So here we have the fundamental shapes, spheres and triangles, of sacred geometry deliberately placed in the landscape. But are they also a star map?

American archaeologist Samuel K Lothrop (“Archeology of the Diquis Delta, Costa Rica”, Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, Harvard University, 1963), for example, concludes that there is evidence that the stone balls have been oriented astronomically.

Similar stone balls are found in at least three other areas of the world where pyramids abound, Mexico, Costa Rica and South America

Canary Islands: home of the dragon tree

The Archaeology Department of La Laguna University carried out initial excavations and the Canary Islands’ Astrophysical Institute looked into possible ancient astronomical relationships the structures might contain. These studies revealed that the pyramids were aligned to the winter and summer solstices, once again underlining that many, if not all pyramids have an astronomical component. One section of the complex also lined up with a remarkable sunset, which occurs in a distinctive spot on the mountainous horizon: a double sunset, which means that the sun disappears behind the Anaga mountains, appears again, and finally sets a second time in a small niche that, indeed, seems to have been specifically carved out of the mountains for this purpose alone. [http://www.philipcoppens.com/nap_art12.html]

Many people from Europe venture to the Canary Islands for their holidays. But few are aware that on Teneriffe a complex of Mayan-style lava step-pyramids was ‘discovered’ in 1998 when an ethnographic park was opened. But the pyramids are only one of several such complexes on the islands. Their existence had been noted by Thor Heyerdahl in 1991 when working on his transoceanic theories of migration. As always with new pyramid finds, it generated controversy at first but then became a tourist attraction.

The World Tree

Dragon Tree, Icod de los Vinos
Image www.philipcoppens.com

I’ve also been doing quite a bit of research into the concept of a World Tree so I was intrigued to come across an entry that connected the pyramid complexes to this mythological being. The late Philip Coppens, more from him later, investigated the complexes and noted that one of them was home to a 600 year old dragon tree. (Very shiver-making to read that!) He suggested:

Icod was one of Tenerife’s largest Guanche settlements when the Europeans arrived on the island. A six-hundred year old dragon tree – still a tourist highlight – was used as the site where the local Guanche kings – or parliament – were said to gather. The “Drago Milenario” is 17 metres high and has a diameter of six metres. The species is “Dracaena draco” and has barely evolved since the time of the dinosaurs. The tree has a curious form, growing like a bundle of separate trunks clinging together before bursting asunder to create the drago’s distinctive mushroom shape. The drago’s resin turns red as blood on contact with the air and it is suspected that the drago was worshipped by the Guanche, who are known to have used its resin for embalming. The Guanche also used the red rubbery sap in healing salves. The tree was also said to foretell the future – a fine blossom pointed to a fine harvest. Could it have been the local edition of another world-wide phenomenon: the World Tree, which was said to have its roots going down into the Underworld and reach all the way into the Heavens?

Coppens also points out that there are links with pyramids in the Med:

However, the lava pyramid/platform complexes that are “typical” of the Canary Islands, are also found on another volcanic island, Sicily, in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, off the southern tip of Italy. In the valley of the river Alcantara, on the northern slopes of Etna, in the province of Catania, are at least ten pyramids and all have the same structure. They are as high as ten meters and twenty to thirty metres wide, are composed of dark volcanic stones neatly positioned – just like on Tenerife.

It would seem that there was a widespread pyramid-building culture all over the ancient world. Coppens again:

Both Sicily and Tenerife are volcanic islands and perhaps the inhabitants of both islands worshipped their volcanic cone identically. But for this reality to have occurred, it means that there must have been an exchange of ideas, or a common origin, between the two cultures. And for this, a boat is once again required. Noting that they are believed to have been a native culture from Libya (though the Phoenician origins should not be discounted), Sicily was but a short hop in a different direction. Could it therefore be that one wave went towards the Canary Islands, and another to Sicily? If we could still ask Thor Heyerdahl, he would no doubt immediately agree it is a possibility and should be considered. For the conservative archaeologists, it will likely take several more decades to arrive at this conclusion.

But the pyramid culture extended way beyond the Med and its hinterlands as we’ll see.

Do check out Philip Coppens’ take on the Mesoamerican pyramids http://www.philipcoppens.com/mayan_magic.html, http://www.philipcoppens.com/rebuildingcreation.html  (sacred landscape and the world tree) and http://www.philipcoppens.com/orionimage.html

P.S before we leave, isn’t this a brilliant way to be remembered? It’s from Philip Coppens Facebook page, still lovingly maintained by his wife.

Three tears ago today, Philip Coppens made his transition from earthling to astronaut. We were blessed to share his journey while he was here with us, and continue to be in awe of his spirit as the journey continues in its ever-changing form. As he is so fond of saying to those whom he makes contact with, “I’m just in the other room.”

Such a lovely thought.

China: The White Pyramid enigma.

“At the end of the Second World War, pilot James Gaussman had to adjust his course due to engine problems. He tried to reach his base in Assam, India, having dropped off supplies inside China. As he turned around one mountain-top, a giant pyramid rose in the valley in front of him. It was white, made out of metal or stone. According to Gaussman it would have fitted perfectly in any fairy tale. A jewel-like stone crowned its top. “Though I wanted to set my plane on the ground and investigate, there was no way I could land it on that terrain.”

The Gaussman 1945 photo.

The Gaussman 1945 photo.

Gaussman’s photos and account would not be published in full for 45 years. They remained buried in the Secret Service files of the U.S. military, the existence of the pyramid having been denied by the Chinese authorities despite the pyramid apparently being larger than the Great Pyramid of Giza. His contemporary account is certainly intriguing.

“I flew around a mountain and then we came to a valley. Directly below us was a gigantic white pyramid. It looked as if it were from a fairy tale. The pyramid was draped in shimmering white.

It could have been metal, or some other form of stone. It was white on all sides. What was most curious about it was its capstone: a large piece of precious gem-like material. I was deeply moved by the colossal size of the thing.”

Two years later, in 1947, another U.S. aviator, Maurice spotted a giant pyramid in Xian and rapidly snapped pictures. Several U.S. newspapers published his account, including the New York Times on March 28, 1947. But Chinese archaeologists continued to deny the existence of such a structure, even though Sheahan’s photographs also suggested it was higher than any pyramid in Egypt.

And so began the Chinese pyramid enigma, or more properly, once again the question of pyramids in China reared its head.

‘In 1920, historian Henri Cordier wrote: “China’s ancient past is denied both to us and its population. Its grand past is slowly unveiled, similar to how Egypt’s was revealed. Later on, one learned of buildings, standing stones and other monuments that were not mentioned by the Chinese historians (as part of their history).” The largest country in the world was, and is, largely there to be discovered. Though accepted as a great civilisation, its ancient treasures were barely known. One rumour spoke about pyramids that could be found in desolate areas.’

There is an even earlier report quoted on a website from a guy who went out to China to try to find them on the ground:

A certain mythology has grown up around them. An American trader, stumbling upon these amazing structures in 1912, asked his Buddhist monk-guide about them. He was told that 5,000-year-old monastic documents not only contained information about these pyramids, but said the pyramids were extremely old when these records were made.
The trader, Fred Meyer Schroder, observed several smaller pyramids in the distance.

He wrote in his travel diary that his first sight of the giant pyramid, along with its smaller cousins, rendered him almost speechless.

“It was even more uncanny than if we had found it in the wilderness,” he wrote. “But those [ pyramids) were to some extent exposed to the eyes of the world – but still totally unknown in the western world.” [http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/piramides/esp_piramides_china_3.htm]

The writer’s interest had been piqued by American traveller and author David Hatcher Childress reporting that ‘archaeological excavations of the White Pyramid have brought to light magnificent jade objects and “green stones.”’ But Childress cited no corroboration for his statement. (A similar statement was made, similarly without attribution to a definitive source, regarding the finding of numerous Jade crystal skulls in China, see The Crystal Skulls.) The writer and his companion managed to journey to Xian several times, where he saw numerous smaller pyramids but no large white one. However, this caught my interest as mention of dragons and archaeoastronomy always does:

Professor Wang Shiping, of Xian, who discussed these matters with Peter Krassa and myself near the site of the pyramids, told us he believed they might in actual fact be part of a giant system of sacred lines expressive of the feng shui concept of the ‘ways of the dragon.’

Dr. Wang said he estimated the age of these pyramids at 4,500 years and that he believed they might have been arranged to mirror the shapes of certain constellations in the night sky, just as certain key pyramids in Egypt are now thought to have been constructed in imitation of the constellation Orion and related stars. The Chinese pyramids near Xian bear witness, suggested Professor Wang Shiping, to the immense knowledge of geometry and mathematics enjoyed by the Chinese of almost five millennia ago. [www.bibliotecapleyades.net]

Philip Coppens was another speaker I had the pleasure of listening to at Megalithomania many years ago, from whose website some of the quotes above are taken. Today even Wikipedia has a page on ‘Chinese pyramids’, which are deemed to be tombs. The question still remains, are these flat topped structures actual pyramids or simply ‘burial platforms’? I leave you to follow the ‘evidence’ for yourself. You’ll find Philip on Youtube and http://www.megalithomania.co.uk/dvd.html. And then there’s Antarctica

Antartica‘In 2016 a team of American and European researchers claimed to have found proof of an ancient Antarctica civilisation.

They reported three precisely shaped, four sided pyramids protruding through the tundra. Online conspiracists claimed this was the work of a long-forgotten civilisation whose existence was finally being revealed to the world.

Recent scientific discoveries indicate Antarctica may once have been inhabited.

In 2009 pollen particles were found on the continent, suggesting tropical plant life may have once lived there. Journalist Christopher Condon believes that Antarctica may actually be the long lost city of Atlantis. First discussed by Plato, the ancient city is said to have been destroyed by natural disaster in 10,000BC – it has never been located. Professor Charles Hapgood has theorised that the continent was home to an ancient civilisation which escaped or perished as natural disasters hit. He explained the lack of material evidence with his theory of crystal displacement. This suggests that every 20,000 to 30,000 years the earth’s entire crust shifts with the most recent shift allegedly having taken place 12,000 years ago, moving Antarctica and burrying settlements under thick layers of ice.

Others have contested that recent discoveries may not even be new, science journalist Alfredo Carbonetti, has traced sources which also mention these pyramid structures but refer to them as mountains instead.

Hapgood’s theory about displacement has also been widely discredited because had it happened it would have wiped out all animals living on earth.

Pyramid formations are hardly unusual either – as they occur frequently in mountain ranges. Crucially, further research has shown the continent has been covered in deep ice for at least 15 million years, nine million years before the first human ancestors came to earth. There is no concrete evidence to suggest that these pyramids are anything other than natural rock formations.’ [source temporarily mislaid]

But how do they know how old the earliest visitors to Earth actually were?

And the natural rock faces could have been shaped to reflect the underlying sacred geometry. Something to think about!
