“The only journey is the one within.”
― Rainer Maria Rilke
I’m going to be working on the other side of the Peace Gate when I go to Belfast in May. It will be interesting to take the view from the far side of the wall. Maybe they’ll even open the Gate on Sunday. We’re opening our inner dragons. Gillian McBriar, who’s organising the workshop, had a call from a lady who was drawn to the workshop but was rather sacred of the idea of speaking to her inner dragons. Understandable perhaps because of all the bad press dragons have had over the years. From my experience, however, I can tell you that the dragons are keen to make themselves known to us. They may demand some clearing work from us, but we all need that from time to time. But once that’s done, they give us power and strength way beyond what we would get any other way. They are power allies beyond measure.
“You are not too old
and it is not too late
to dive into your increasing depths
where life calmly gives out
its own secret”
― Rainer Maria Rilke
Rainer Maria Rilke has so much wisdom to share with us and his insights on dragons are worth pursuing. For him they are both the toxic emotions, limiting beliefs and ancestral patterns that drive us, and the unfolding promise of a new way of being. The potent gifts that lie deep in our heart just waiting to be unfolded.
“How should we be able to forget those ancient myths that are at the beginning of all peoples, the myths about dragons that at the last moment turn into princesses; perhaps all the dragons of our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us once beautiful and brave. Perhaps everything terrible is in its deepest being something helpless that wants help from us.
So you must not be frightened if a sadness rises up before you larger than any you have ever seen; if a restiveness, like light and cloudshadows, passes over your hands and over all you do. You must think that something is happening with you, that life has not forgotten you, that it holds you in its hand; it will not let you fall. Why do you want to shut out of your life any uneasiness, any miseries, or any depressions? For after all, you do not know what work these conditions are doing inside you.”
― Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet
One thing we can say for certain, participants will be returning home from this workshop transformed. Frogs will certainly become princes, maybe dragons will well become princesses. But all will be empowered to be who they may be.
“It seems to me that almost all our sadnesses are moments of tension, which we feel as paralysis because we no longer hear our astonished emotions living. Because we are alone with the unfamiliar presence that has entered us; because everything we trust and are used to is for a moment taken away from us; because we stand in the midst of a transition where we cannot remain standing. That is why the sadness passes: the new presence inside us, the presence that has been added, has entered our heart, has gone into its innermost chamber and is no longer even there, – is already in our bloodstream. And we don’t know what it was. We could easily be made to believe that nothing happened, and yet we have changed, as a house that a guest has entered changes. We can’t say who has come, perhaps we will never know, but many signs indicate that the future enters us in this way in order to be transformed in us, long before it happens. And that is why it is so important to be solitary and attentive when one is sad: because the seemingly uneventful and motionless moment when our future steps into us is so much closer to life than that other loud and accidental point of time when it happens to us as if from outside. The quieter we are, the more patient and open we are in our sadnesses, the more deeply and serenely the new presence can enter us, and the more we can make it our own, the more it becomes our fate.”
― Rainer Maria Rilke
As those who’ve been to our Belfast workshops already know, we open a quiet, safe space in which to release all those sadnesses and make room for the new joyous you to emerge. Dragons are a potent means of transformation.
Dragons hold much wisdom and great riches and they are wonderful guides and mentors. Once you’ve connected with your crystal dragon, the next step is to deepen the communication and connect to your inner dragon, source of your power. In this practical, hands-on workshops we will be exploring the ways in which each of the elemental dragons speak and manifest themselves within us. Your own crystal dragon skull will be required but there will be plenty for sale on the workshop if you don’t already have one. But if you do, please being it along.
Air dragons dance lightly and clepe,
Earth dragons weave through tunnels groined deep,
Fire dragons prance never to sleep,
Water dragons gurgle between banks foredeep,
Metal dragons commingle earth’s structure to leap,
Cosmic dragons the stars in their places keep
